The lighthouse on Tiritiri Matangi Island is the oldest lighthouse still in operation in New Zealand, the first light was lit on the 1st of January 1865. In 2019, the lighthouse was fitted with a 24 volt Flashing LED beacon, replacing the previous rotating beacon.

The lighthouse is located near the visitor centre and is wonderful to see during the day and also at night. Maritime NZ also run special tours during the year where they can show you inside - look out for those dates!
