Birds in the Bush booklet
This booklet is intended as a guide for day visitors to Tiritiri Matangi Island to help with identification and learning of specie's names. It is light-weight and a small handy size - perfect for pulling out of a backpack or pocket of a jacket.
Each page features a full colour image along with the name of the species in Te Reo Māori and english. If there is a noticeable difference between male and female of the same species an image of each is shown with the gender specified.
There are also some images of the land showing the progress that has been made by the volunteer planting operations of the 80s & 90s.
The booklet includes the birds and animals most likely to be seen on a day walk around the Island. All of the birds included are native to New Zealand, except the brown quail. The Australasian quail is a commonly encountered bird on the Island and is very similar in appearance to the extinct koreke/NZ quail, which would historically have been present on the Island.
Native birds which are nocturnal or seasonal/occasional visitors have been omitted from this booklet.

We sell the booklet in our shop where all proceeds go towards conservation and education programmes on the Island.
