Events
Events for 2019 are listed below.
Supporters' Weekends
Supporters’ weekends are a wonderful way to get to know the Island better and to take an active role in Tiritiri Matangi.
Supporters’ hosted weekends will be hosted by two guides and will include the opportunity to do a night walk and listen to the dawn chorus. The guides can also give you advice on where to go for that bird you haven’t yet seen and you will have the chance to help fill the feeders and water troughs. Supporters, their families and their friends (if they are happy to join up) are all welcome. As a Supporter you pay half the usual price ($15 adult, $10 children) for the bunkhouse.
Fullers 360 has kindly provided a special rate for the Supporters’ weekends.
Working weekends are an opportunity for supporters to contribute to important tasks on the Island. There is always great camaraderie in the bunkhouse, with shared pot-luck meals and a satisfying sense of achievement.
Enquiries and bookings for the weekends and special events should be made to Mary-Ann Rowland by email: shop@tiritirimatangi.org.nz, or by phoning 09 476 0010 between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
Join us at an evening talk
Every year we run several evening talks for our Supporters. These cover a range of topics, from Tiritiri Matangi’s history to our plants and birds. Our guides love these seminars for their information and for the opportunity to mix and mingle with other Supporters
Please feel free to come and listen – bring a cup for juice or a hot drink after the speaker, as we’re trying to reduce our environmental impact. To attend you must be a financial supporter or join up on the night.
Events 2019
*The specialist ornithological and photographic walks on Tiritiri are for no more than 8 (or no less than 4) in a group and will be guided by an expert in that field. They are $25 and must be booked through Mary-Ann guiding@tiritirimatangi.org.nz
Please note that (except where an alternative is listed below) evening talks take place in Building 115 at Unitec. You can view directions and a map by clicking here.
The programme of events for 2019 will appear here soon (Feb 2019)
February 25th (Monday, 7:30 start, Building 115, Unitec) Our first Tiri Talk of the year and a chance for you to catch up with everyone.
Mikey Watson has done several 'Lichen' walks on Tiritiri on our Guides Days Out and those who went with him were fascinated. We all think lichens have been overlooked for too long and consequently have asked Mikey to bring us up to date.
In his talk he will cover:
- a base knowledge of what makes a lichen a lichen (i.e. in comparison to plants, alga, fungi etc.)
- why they are important (i.e. their place in ecosystems)
- familiarity with the commonly encountered lichens of Tiri (where to look, how to ID etc.)
- gems to use for guiding (amazing facts, tricks for school groups)
March 2nd (Saturday) The Tiritiri Matangi Concert. This concert marks the return of Tiri's Tartan taonga. Click here to jump to a page giving all the details.

We are also promised a short film and a live demonstration! The evening begins at 7.30 pm at the Epsom Community Centre, 202 Gillies Avenue. Click here for a map.
