Tauhinu

Botanical name:  Pomaderris amoena
Maori name:  Tauhinu
Height:  1.5 metres

Pomaderris phylicifolia - tauhinu

Tauhinu forms a very small shrub and becomes smothered in pale creamy yellow flowers in mid September.  It is a short lived early colonizer of disturbed areas.

Maori used hard dry twigs of tauhinu to fashion fish hooks.

Pomaderris is a mainly Australian genus of some 40 species of small trees and shrubs. Seven species occur in New Zealand, four of which are endemic.  Two species are present on Tiritiri Matangi, both endemic.
