Creeping Fuschia

Botanical name:  Fuchsia procumbens
Common name:  Creeping fuchsia

A creeping prostrate shrub often forming large scrambling masses.

Endemic to NZ, found on sandy, gravelly or rocky places near the sea in the northern North Island. It is often found growing just above the high-tide mark.

The foliage cannot be recognised as fuchsia, with very small heart shaped leaves.

The flowers are very free, small (about 1 cm high) and point upwards, also very unfuchsia like. The stamens are bright red and the pollen blue. Flowering is from Dec Feb.  Oblong, crimson berries up to 2.5cm long are produced.
