Botanical name:  Coprosma propinqua
Maori name:  Mingimingi
Height:  6 metres

Coprosma propinquaSmall leaved, divaricating shrub.


The leaves are dark green on top, paler underneath and quite thick. They are linear, 10-14 mm long and arranged opposite each other or sometimes in opposite clusters along the branches.


Flowers: dioecious (i.e. plants produce only either male or female flowers). Flowering occurs between February and March. Pollination is by wind.


The seeds ripen from August – September (inside translucent blue berries along the stems) and provide food for birds, insects and lizards.
