Kohekohe leafKohekohe flowers15m. – flowers  April / May – a spectacular tree that was very common in coastal and lowland forest, especially in damp situations. It’s clusters of flowers sprout straight from the trunk. The fruit ripens in about 15 months and the seed is spectacularly buried in red flesh. The trees flower in alternate years and there are no flowers the year the seed is maturing.
