Clianthus puniceus

Kakabeak flowers and leaf2m. – Flowers November / December – a small spreading shrub that enjoys coastal situations. A colonising member of the pea family. Gives a spectacular floral display, attracting nectar lovers. This form has red flowers but can also be pinks to white (alba).

The common name comes from its flower shape.

Seed source – Moturemu Island, Kaipara Harbour.
