Elingamita johnsoniiElingamita johnsonii close up of flowers4m. A spreading tree with leaves that look like a Karaka.

The yellowish flowers are found in clusters October to December.

Drupe like fruit ripen from green to a distinct bright red in cultivation in 12-15 months.

Early observations of this plant on West Island in the three Kings Group put its number at about 12.

In 1983 a colony was discovered at nearby Hinemoa Rock in the Princess Islands.

It is now cultivated widely from seed and cuttings.

Young plants can be killed by the slightest frost.
